It's only been 24 hours since our last post, but we have a couple updates that we want to share with everyone. First, Rich's surgery has been postponed to Monday morning. He went into the hospital this morning to fill out paperwork, meet the doctors, and receive his free sandwich and coffee they offer to upcoming surgery patients, and was told that since he has a nasty scrape on his shoulder (also a result of his cycling accident) they don't want to risk the possibility of infection by making a small incision on his collar bone. So, Monday it is!
After leaving the hospital, he walked a quarter mile down the road to the baby doctor's office and met me just in time for another ultrasound. It appears that Baby Temer either isn't paying attention or the flashlight bulb wasn't bright enough to stimulate his curiosity and make him turn his little body around! He's also dropped lower so the doctor feels there's a good chance he's staying put. Our fingers are still crossed, but we've also made an appointment with the hospital for next week to meet with the surgeon and schedule Baby Temer's future birthday. His current due date is November 23rd, but it sounds like they'll do a c-section anywhere from 7 to 10 days before his due date. If anyone feels strongly about which day they think he should be born, please let us know and we'll take your comments into consideration. :-) Selfishly, I'm just glad I don't have to post a belly bump picture for week 39 or week 40.
Listen. This kid needs to be born as far away from Thanksgiving as possible. You have a golden opportunity here, don't waste it. Think about this carefully, examine calendars through 2014, Rich is a math guy, have him work the numbers. I don't want Reed to grow up with the same trials and tribulations that I, a Christmas baby did. This is your chance to save him from a stream of birthday cards of the same tired hand turkey. Gobble gobble, happy birthday! Imagine the disappointment on his face when he realizes that toy he just opened needs to double as the Thanksgiving centerpiece. Are you prepared to answer when he asks "what am I supposed to do with this decorative gourd?!" The joint Thanksgiving/birthday present options are an endless journey in disappointment and misery. It won't matter when the gravy mixes with the birthday cake, it's all going to taste bitter anyway.
ReplyDeleteSeize this opportunity! You can save poor Reed from a cornucopia of second rate birthdays!
I defer the rest of this argument for AN EARLY BIRTHDAY to Pam, as I'm sure she would agree that a birthday close to future Ohio State-Michigan games could lead to unfortunate misunderstandings.
Love you guys :)
Very good points indeed. The Ohio State-Michigan game was, of course, brought up as we were walking out of the doctor's office. That, coupled with Thanksgiving, we agree the earlier the better. I'm sure Reed will appreciate your careful considerations. From one holiday baby to another possible holiday baby, you guys will definitely share a bond. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI second that! Have baby Reed early! Although I am not a holiday baby, my birthday is exactly one week before Christmas and I must say - it's not bad. Hardly get gifts that double as holiday gifts but it doesn't happen very often. Cheers to Baby Temer!
